The regional development agency for the North East of England. Set up in April 1999 it has a strategic role to help the people of the north east to sustain jobs, prosperity and a higher quality of life.
The Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit

Provides support for the five Tees Valley Boroughs by:
- Submitting sub-regional strategies in partnership with the member boroughs, the European Union, government agencies and the private and voluntary sector.
- Influencing the decisions and actions of European institutions, national government and the local private sector by lobbying to maximise the attraction of external resources to the sub region.
- Providing relevant information and forecasts to support the local authorities and other organisations.
Tees Valley Unlimited

A partnership of public, private and voluntary bodies which coordinates activities appropriate at city region level and designed to improve the economic performance of the entire Tees Valley. At the request of the Secretary of State for Communities and local government the Tees Valley authorities were invited to submit a city region business case by the end of September 2006. It was decided that this business case would also be the city region development plan. This programme is now being taken forward by a formally constituted Board of Tees Valley Unlimited comprising key players from all sectors.
Tees Valley Regeneration

The urban regeneration company for the Tees Valley. Set up in 2002 its shareholders are the five Councils that comprise the Tees Valley. It is leading a £1.5 billion investment programme in land, property and infrastructure throughout the sub region. Two of its key sites – at North Shore and Middlehaven – fall within the area covered by SMI.
